A hot rod is typically a pre 49 car that has been modified with a V8 engine. Usually accompanied by flash paint, or body mods etc. A muscle car is a factory car starting from 65 which came out with high performance V8 motor, which gave the car good power to weight ratio, and aggressive body styling.
