Finding that required part to restore your classic car or muscle car may not be as hard as you think. Your two options will come down to used parts or replicate parts (or refurbished). I will go through the scenarios of when each type is best for your restoration project, and I will give some tips on how to find them, including some "inside knowledge" from having worked in the salvage yard business.
In general, used parts will be cheaper than new parts or newly built replicate parts. Used parts may be perfect for interior or cosmetic parts, but may not be suitable for safety parts such as the brake system or steering system, especially if the car you are restoring is very old. Safety standards and features have come a long way, and older parts may not be reliable or meet today's safety standards. Retrofitting your classic car with newer brakes or steering system may not be that hard. Online forums and groups surrounding your model may hold information. Nearly all classic car fans, restorers, and avid car buffs will share their knowledge with you if you just ask. Local car clubs involving your model is also a great place to find others who may have restored your model, and you may just be lucky and find a person who has some old parts they do not need anymore.
Thanks to the internet, classic car restorers have a lot more tools available to find their parts. Before the internet you had to call every salvage yard you could to find a used part, or search the many catalogs, magazines, and classified ads. Today you can find used parts on ebay, craigslist, and a host of other sites. The power of the internet and computers does not stop there. By calling your local salvage yard, you could possibly be searching over 2,000 salvage yards with that one phone call. Many salvage yards use a computerized inventory system, and there are two main systems in use. Each of these systems share the inventory listing of other yards on this system, meaning if the salvage yard you call does not have the part, they can search the rest of the yards to find one that does. For a small fee and shipping charges, the other yard will send the part to the salvage yard you called for your pickup. You will need to determine if the shipping charges warrant the purchase, since larger items can be very expensive to ship. You may not have much of a choice if this is a hard to find part though.
I mentioned there are two main inventory systems in use. These are Hollander and Pinnacle. Your best bet is to call salvage yards and find a yard on each system. Each company claims to have 2,000+ yards on each system, and most yards are only on one. By finding a yard on each system and having them do a search through all inventory, you will have searched 4,000+ salvage yards with just a few phone calls. These computer systems will also show interchangeable parts. Did you know that a fuel pump from a 1980 GMC van is the same as the 1969 Camaro fuel pump? When you call these yards, their search will bring the interchangeable parts up in their search, making your search more successful and your purchase possibly cheaper.

Collector Car Market Report: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 market has softened significantly in the last 12-18 months. The global recession is being felt in the collector car market. A few years ago a 1969 Camaro Z28, any Camaro really, looked to be a rocketship investment, regularly reaching six-figure bids. Now, good to great examples can be had for between $40-$60k.

This engine's 290hp rating was very underrated. In stock trim, actual power was in the mid-300hp range. These engines were designed specifically to compete in SCCA road racing and came with a huge resume of hardcore race parts: a Holley 800-cfm carburetor, big-runner aluminum intake manifold, 2.02 heads, a high-lift mechanical camshaft (0.485-inch lift), 11:1 compression, full-floating wrist pins, a forged crankshaft, and more. Because the engine did not produce much torque and had such high rpm capability beyond 7,000 rpm, 302 Z28s were only offered with four-speed transmission and were not available with air conditioning. Chevrolet also sold several cross-ram-intake setups (two staggered four-barrel Holley carburetors) and special race camshafts for the early Z28s that helped the 302 gain even more high-rpm power. With some modifications these engines would easily produce power well above 400 horses (at very high rpm)."

Thanks to PC technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a very respectable twenty-eight miles to the gallon the highway. So, though fuel mileage will certainly be lower than plenty of other models, the new group of muscle cars will still better the previous generation vehicles with fuel mileage 80% or more above the autos from the 1970s.Fortunately, we still live in a reasonably free country and what the buyer wants, the buyer gets. So, V8 powered muscle vehicles paired to six speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel economy will possibly appeal to several. No, they won't be actual copies of yesterday's muscle cars, but they will provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I can't wait!.

The carburetor was used on nearly all road car engines until the 1980s but it was long realised better control of the fuel/air mixture could be achieved with fuel injection. Indirect fuel injection was first used in aircraft engines from 1909, in racing car engines from the 1930s, and road cars from the late 1950s.[16] Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is now starting to appear in production vehicles such as the 2007 (Mark II) BMW Mini. Exhaust gases are also cleaned up by fitting a catalytic converter into the exhaust system. Clean air legislation in many of the car industries most important markets has made both catalysts and fuel injection virtually universal fittings. Most modern gasoline engines also are capable of running with up to 15% ethanol mixed into the gasoline - older vehicles may have seals and hoses that can be harmed by ethanol. With a small amount of redesign, gasoline-powered vehicles can run on ethanol concentrations as high as 85%. 100% ethanol is used in some parts of the world (such as Brazil), but vehicles must be started on pure gasoline and switched over to ethanol once the engine is running. Most gasoline engined cars can also run on LPG with the addition of an LPG tank for fuel storage and carburettor modifications to add an LPG mixer. LPG produces fewer toxic emissions and is a popular fuel for fork-lift trucks that have to operate inside buildings.

Ethanol, other alcohol fuels (biobutanol) and biogasoline have widespread use an automotive fuel. Most alcohols have less energy per liter than gasoline and are usually blended with gasoline. Alcohols are used for a variety of reasons - to increase octane, to improve emissions, and as an alternative to petroleum based fuel, since they can be made from agricultural crops. Brazil's ethanol program provides about 20% of the nation's automotive fuel needs, as a result of the mandatory use of E25 blend of gasoline throughout the country, 3 million cars that operate on pure ethanol, and 6 million dual or flexible-fuel vehicles sold since 2003.[17] that run on any mix of ethanol and gasoline.
