Finding that required part to restore your classic car or muscle car may not be as hard as you think. Your two options will come down to used parts or replicate parts (or refurbished). I will go through the scenarios of when each type is best for your restoration project, and I will give some tips on how to find them, including some "inside knowledge" from having worked in the salvage yard business.
In general, used parts will be cheaper than new parts or newly built replicate parts. Used parts may be perfect for interior or cosmetic parts, but may not be suitable for safety parts such as the brake system or steering system, especially if the car you are restoring is very old. Safety standards and features have come a long way, and older parts may not be reliable or meet today's safety standards. Retrofitting your classic car with newer brakes or steering system may not be that hard. Online forums and groups surrounding your model may hold information. Nearly all classic car fans, restorers, and avid car buffs will share their knowledge with you if you just ask. Local car clubs involving your model is also a great place to find others who may have restored your model, and you may just be lucky and find a person who has some old parts they do not need anymore.
Thanks to the internet, classic car restorers have a lot more tools available to find their parts. Before the internet you had to call every salvage yard you could to find a used part, or search the many catalogs, magazines, and classified ads. Today you can find used parts on ebay, craigslist, and a host of other sites. The power of the internet and computers does not stop there. By calling your local salvage yard, you could possibly be searching over 2,000 salvage yards with that one phone call. Many salvage yards use a computerized inventory system, and there are two main systems in use. Each of these systems share the inventory listing of other yards on this system, meaning if the salvage yard you call does not have the part, they can search the rest of the yards to find one that does. For a small fee and shipping charges, the other yard will send the part to the salvage yard you called for your pickup. You will need to determine if the shipping charges warrant the purchase, since larger items can be very expensive to ship. You may not have much of a choice if this is a hard to find part though.
I mentioned there are two main inventory systems in use. These are Hollander and Pinnacle. Your best bet is to call salvage yards and find a yard on each system. Each company claims to have 2,000+ yards on each system, and most yards are only on one. By finding a yard on each system and having them do a search through all inventory, you will have searched 4,000+ salvage yards with just a few phone calls. These computer systems will also show interchangeable parts. Did you know that a fuel pump from a 1980 GMC van is the same as the 1969 Camaro fuel pump? When you call these yards, their search will bring the interchangeable parts up in their search, making your search more successful and your purchase possibly cheaper.

Back in the 1950s through the mid 1970s, Detroit automakers produced many cars that were out and out "muscle" vehicles. These sorts of vehicles shared the same characteristics: they were two door coupes with souped up engines, responsive transmissions, an assertive exterior design, and a sporty interior. High fuel prices and changing tastes finally limited sales to the point where only a few models were produced beyond that period. Today, muscle automobile mania is back, notwithstanding even higher gas prices. Thanks to the Ford Mustang and to a lesser extent to sedan and truck models from Dodge, there's new interest in a class long given up. The future is bright for the muscle car segment as another manufacturer, Chevrolet, considers bringing back one of its darlings of yesterday, the Camaro.Besides the Ford Mustang there were a complete host of cars produced that at a previous previous point or another could have been considered a muscle car. In addition to the Mustang, the Ford Fairlane 500 and Ford Torino did duty; the Mercury Montego was another model; Chevrolet produced the Camaro and Corvette ; Pontiac the GTO, Firebird, and Storm ; Olds the 442 ; Yankee Motors' had its Javelin ; Plymouth had the 'Cuda, and Dodge produced the Challenger and the Charger. Today, only the Mustang and Corvette survives though the Dodge Charger has returned as a 4 door muscle car along with its sibling, the hot Dodge Magnum wagon.Interestedly, it took Ford's redoing of the Mustang for the 2005 model year to stir the current muscle automobile age craze. Styled after Mustangs built in the 1960s, the current Mustang welcomes a retro look while incorporating recent technology. The result has been the Mustang currently sells its entire 150,000 model capacity without incentives. The Mustang has been inspiring DaimlerChrysler to go ahead with a retro cruiser of its own. The Dodge Challenger concept car, appearing at car shows across the USA, has been a big hit and Chrysler plans on bringing the V8 hemi powered model back in 2009. Additionally, General Motors is considering giving its blessing on the Camaro, another auto also making the rounds of the States vehicle show circuit. So, isn't it daft to bring back such gas hogs? Back in the early 1970s, the then current crop of muscle automobiles averaged only 10-12 miles to the gallon around town and fifteen or sixteen m.p.g on the highway. Thanks to PC technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a very respectable twenty-eight miles to the gallon the highway. So, though fuel mileage will certainly be lower than plenty of other models, the new group of muscle cars will still better the previous generation vehicles with fuel mileage 80% or more above the autos from the 1970s.Fortunately, we still live in a reasonably free country and what the buyer wants, the buyer gets. So, V8 powered muscle vehicles paired to six speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel economy will possibly appeal to several. No, they won't be actual copies of yesterday's muscle cars, but they will provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I can't wait!.

While budget plays a major part in decision making for those who want to buy classic cars, it’s often the personality of the vehicle and the buyer that need to be looked at for that perfect union to take place. So how does that tie in with Chevrolet classics?Let’s look back at the mid 1960s. That’s when Chevrolet began production of the Corvette. It was later described as a supercar for the poor man, and far later than that sung about by none other than The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, little red versions at any rate! The Corvette offered raw power at an affordable price. Being in production for such a long time Chevy’s Corvette underwent multiple style adaptations, and even the car’s power was set won to a mere 200 horsepower in deference to the ecological interests. Corvettes manufactured today do boast superb horsepower. Are we seeing tomorrow’s classic emerging before our eyes?Chevy’s Impalas did for tail fins what Madonna did for Jean Paul Gaultier’s conical bustier. But that image was short lived and by the early sixties the fins were discarded and the styling became more sedate. Sedate, however, is not a term that would be applied to the Chevrolet Camaro. This was a real muscle car and its manufacture was a direct repost to the Ford Mustang and its phenomenal popularity. With a 425 horsepower V8 engine, this beast really could growl and roar.Still on the subject of muscle cars, Chevrolet created the Nova in 1962. Sometimes also referred to as the Chevy II, the Nova was a more compact and economically priced brother to the Camaro. Later versions boasted a V8 engine which augmented the car’s performance. And so a pattern was emerging, and this is illustrated by the introduction of the Chevrolet Chevelle which had a 396 hp engine as standard. But perhaps the biggest triumph was the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This sleek two-door coupe is recognised as one of General Motor's resounding successes in the eyes of the NASCAR stock car racing fraternity. The Monte Carlo was based on Chevy's A platform. Its unique design was wrought by Elliot Estes and Dave Hollis. Anyone who wants to buy classic cars would do well to look at what Chevrolet has offered over the years, there is something for all tastes.Hot Rod PhotosChevrolet Classics

Americans love power. Chevrolet muscle cars,as evident from the name, indicate America's fascination for automotive power. The term muscle car illustrates a two-door rear wheel drive medium sized car with a big and powerful V8 engine. Muscle cars were built for street use and road racing. Although sports cars too have powerful engine and are meant for racing purpose but they differ from muscle cars in terms of price and size.Muscle cars are lower priced but larger in size than sports cars.

The trend for more powerful performance oriented car began in the 60s. The period between 1960 and 1972 played a key role in the history of American automobile as the age of transition.Especially the year 1966 when General Motors gave birth to its first powerful performance car Chevrolet Camaro that swept the market as soon as it came into existence.

Chevy muscle cars appealed towards larger group of people as they offered affordable yet powerful performance on the road that was more than enough to boost the booming automobile culture in the United States. But with time the size of Chevy muscle cars increased in keeping with its engine power and luxury features as well.

Chevy Camaro

Designed for 1967 model year Chevrolet Camaro went on sale for the first time on September 29,1966.Designed to compete with Ford Mustang Camaro shared the F-body platform and various components with its other corporate sibling Pontiac Firebird. The second generation Chevy Camaro was introduced in 1970 when it grew wider as well as heavier with the addition of newmechanical components.

The third generation Chevy Camaro saw the daylight in 1982.Although it shared the same platform but was equipped with an array of newer technologies such as throttle body fuel injection,turbo-hydramatic four-speed automatic transmissions, five-speed manual transmissions and 15 to16 inch wheels. In 1993 Chevy Camaro emerged in its new avatar with far more stylish look.Camaro Coupe was accompanied by Convertible this time with a choice of V6 or V8 engines of different capacities. With the 4th generation lasting up to 2002 the 35 years of continuous production of Chevy muscle car came to an end.

But with car enthusiasts' much excitement Chevrolet Camaro hit back in 2009. The 5th generation Chevy Camaro is based on 2006 Chevrolet muscle car concept. The 2009 Chevrolet Camaro coupe with sleek exterior and renewed interior comes in LS,LT and SS trims. Today Chevy Camaro can be defined as personal luxury car at its ultimate.

Chevy Impala

Chevy Impala a production of General Motors in the line of full size muscle cars has been one of the most expensive cars from the very beginning. Redesigned on the GM B-Platform Chevy Impala Super Sport Models became highly popular during 1963 for its superb body style. With a great combination of luxury and power Impala ruled the road for long. After 1996,the 6th generation General Motors stopped production of Impala.

But in the year 2000 Impala was resurrected with whole new body style and a host of technological features that enhanced its performance and brought it awards like '2006 and 2007 Fleet Car of the Year' by Automotive Fleet and Business Fleet magazines.Chevy Impala's new Ethanol Powered E-85 model brought it CAA Pyramid Award for Environmental Initiatives in 2006.

Finally 2009 Chevrolet Impala, member of 8th generation is one of the latest muscle cars of the 21st century.

Impala is loaded with features like 5.3L V8 engine,eight-way power-adjustable driver seat,four-wheel Antilock Brake System and FE3 Sport Suspension that make driving smoother and safer while fine leather upholstery, spacious interior and Ebony-carpet flooring and leather wrapped steering wheel add to its luxurious charm.

If we delve into the history of American muscle cars we will find some more names such as Chevrolet El Camino,Nova,Chevy Monte Carlo and Chevelle that ruled the road for quite some time with Camaro and Impala being the most prominent leaders.
